A recurrent issue of my films is the relationship between the performing body and a specific environment, which can be a natural situation or a mise-en-scène. The actor has to make a physical effort in order to execute his action, or to resist to the milieu. “The participants of the video Still life to the other side (2008, 4 min), were subject to the deliberately difficult and abnormal constraint of having their portraits shot while under water. This situation has created a subtle tension in the way the portraits register. Holding breath, resisting floatation, moving very slowly, all to satisfy the illusion that they are in a normal environment when in fact they are not, offsets the conventional portrait and creates a contradictory feeling”* .

The body’s choreography emerges from the performer’s wavering through a suite of physical and mental states as effort, concentration, anxiety, fear or on the contrary – relaxation, joy, amusement, comfort.

In the video Flights (2007, 2 min) a child is projected in the air by an unknown force and remains there. He flies, moves, crouches, pirouettes. Playing with the laws of gravity the young boy creates a form of aerial dance.
The performers of the video Jumps (2007, 2 min) have to jump as high as possible in order to arrive at the image, (in the sight of the camera). After a few first shots, a pig abruptly appears on the picture.  By his intrusion the animal provokes a divisive attitude to the viewer.
“Untitled (performance with the participation of Mary Beth Heffernan) (2008, 15 min, no sound)  conflates private and public space and sets up an absurd situation between a man and woman struggling in the tide of the ocean to sit down and read together as if they were at home in their living room. The ocean serves as a third character, constantly defeating the couple’s unrelenting desire to achieve the harmonious moment they are seeking”*.
